1.1 Self Employed

On your own is the cheapest way to get to the mountain of colors for which the first thing we must do is put together our own itinerary let’s start.
Very early you will have to go to Av Huayruropata where the buses from Cusco – Sicuani leave (fare about 8 soles, 2.5 dollars approx), after about 2 hours of bus travel you will have to get off in Cusipata.
In Cusipata you must have breakfast (price 5 soles approx) or else you will have to buy food for the road such as nuts, chocolates, cookies, water, etc. You can also go to the toilets. Then you will have to go up in a car or collective cars (the price of 10 soles approx) towards the town of Phulawasipata in a trip of approximately 1 hour.
When you arrive at the town of Phulawasipata you will have to pay your entrance ticket to the mountain of colors and if you are not yet used to hiking you can rent horses that will help you get to the Vinicunca mountain.
In the Mountain of Colors, you will be able to observe the Vilcanota mountain range, the Ausangate snow-capped mountain, as well as the typical fauna of the Peruvian highlands.

2.- What is the best time to travel to the Mountain of Colors

In the mountains of Peru there are two marked periods, which are the following:
2.1.- Dry Season.- This season begins in April with a drier and more frigid climate change at night until November, when the first rains appear.
2.2.- Rainy Season.- The rainy season begins in the month of December until the month of March, which is not recommended to travel to the mountain of colors, since in the heights there are usually heavy fluvial precipitations and in many cases even thunder. and lightning therefore you have to be very careful.

3.- What to take to the Rainbow or 7 Colors Mountain

To get to the mountain of colors it is necessary that you are a day before the walk since you will make physical effort at more than 4500 m.a.s.l. I recommend you to take the following.

  2. Maintain social distancing of at least 1 meter.
  3. Trekking shoes.
  4. Trekking sticks.
  5. Light clothes for the day and warm clothes for the night.
  6. Gloves, hats, caps, and scarves.
